ObjectiveTo evaluate the validity and reliability of the DLOQ to measures the learning organization culture for nurses.To investigate the level and influencing factors of nursing learning organization and core competency of registered nurses, so as to provide a reference for nursing managers in nurse training. Finally, to explore the relationship between clinical learning organization culture and core competency among registered nurses, to offer theoretic basis and practical advice for improvement core competency among registered nurses.MethodsThe quantitative research was adopted. A total of680registered nurses in three tertiary hospitals were investigated with general information questionnaire Competency Inventory for Registered Nurses and the Dimensions of The Learning Organization Questionnaire. The inclusion criteria:registered nurse; work experience≥1year; informed consent to participate in this study. The exclusion criteria:nurses in logistics, supply room and auxiliary department; non-hospital nurses, such as the training nurses, intern; and the nurse who not be in hospital during the survey period, such as the retired、be on leave、to other places for study. SPSS17.0statistical software was used to analyze data, including descriptive statistical analysis, exploratory analysis, pearson correlation analysis, linear regression analysis and variance analysis.Results Sixteen items were retained with four underlying factors that explained69.115%of the variance.The Pearson correlative coefficients between the total and items ranged from0.480-0.663.The mean score of core competency of nurses was2.80, the lowest mean score was the dimension of critical thinking and research aptitude, and the highest mean score was the dimension of legal and ethical practice. Years of working experience, professional title, job satisfaction, age, and self-perceived health status were the main influencing factors.The mean score of the learning organization dimensions was4.39, the lowest mean score was the dimension of promote inquiry and dialogue, and the highest mean score was the dimension of overall situation and strategic leadership. The age, education, years of working experience, professional title were the possible influencing factors.All the four subscales of learning organization were positively correlated with core competency among registered nurses.ConclusionThe reliability and validity of the Dimensions of The Learning Organization Questionnaire (DLOQ) for nurses were reached acceptable standards, according with psychometric test and having the adaptability in nursing field.The nurses’ core competency is in upper middle level. The cultivation of nurses’ critical thinking and research ability should be strengthened, especially for young and unmarried nurses. The nurses’ learning organization is in middle level. The learning organization should be strengthened, especially in the dimension of inquiry and dialogue, further research should be done so as to improve the organization construction. The cultivation of nurses’ overall situation should be strengthened, provide strategic leadership for learning, strengthen cooperation and innovation, and promote inquiry and dialogue, so as to increase core competency among registered nurses and improve the nurses’ general quality.
