Hyperlipidemia is the condition of abnormally elevated levels of any or all lipids inthe blood. It is a main risk factor of atherosclerosis, which increases the risk of heartdisease, stroke, and other vascular diseases. It also causes fatty liver, cirrhosis, cholelithiasis, pancreatitis, retinal hemorrhage, blindness, peripheral vascular disease, claudication, hyperuricemia and so on. Therefore, we put more emphasis on drugintervention in clinical practice, in order to achieve the purpose of preventingcardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Lipid-lowering therapy is also been given tothe patients of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. So seeking safe, effective andmulti-target effect of lipid-lowering drugs are the current trends in the study. Chineseherbal medicine has become a hotspot because of its safety in blood pressure,lipid-lowering, hypoglycemic, readily available, low cost and other advantages. Bidensbipinnata L. belongs to a species of the genus Bidens (Compositae), which is widelydistributed in major provinces in China. It is bitter in taste, neutral in nature and innocuity. It has the effect of heat-clearing, detoxicating and eliminating stasis to subdue swelling. Bidens bipinnata L. has been used for many years, mainly in the treat of hepatitis, inflammation, malaria, hypertension, diabetes, pepticulcer, snake bite, smallpox. Previousreports show it has the function of anti-inflammatory, removal of oxygen free radicals andglycoside, saponin, alkaloid, aetherolea. Our previous study shows its mainly activecomposition is total flavones of Bipinnata L (TFB), which is extracted from the leaves ofBidens pilosa L. TFB has been proved that it has a protection against acute liver injuryand experimental liver fibrosis induced by CCl4. But whether it has protection effect onhyperlipemia is still unknown.Purpose:To further explore the pharmacologic actions of TFB, we investigate the effectand mechanism of TFB on lipid metabolism in experimental hyperlipidemia rats.Method: Hyperlipidemia model of SD rats are induced by high fat diet for14days. Thehyperlipoidemic rats are injected by Positive control drug Xuezhikang (85mg/kg), TFB(40、80、160mg/kg). The serum and liver of hyperlipoidemic rats are tested after30daysof injection. Results: Compared with model group, Xuezhikang and TFB can significantly reduce TC,TG、 CETP、 GGT、 ALT content, while increase HDL content in the serum ofhyperlipidemia rats. Liver pathological examination showed that, Xuezhikang and TFBcan remarkably improve the liver steatosis, heart cells and thoracic aortic wall cellssteatosis in hyperlipidemic rats. These results suggest that TFB has positively preventiveeffects on Lipid metabolism. Conclusions: TFB can notably modulate the lipid metabolic disorder, and greatlyalleviate the occurrence of liver steatosis in hyperlipoidemic rats probably by themechanism of inhibit the key enzyme of lipid metabolic process like GGT、ALP and CETP.
