Baihui point(GV20) is one of the mostly used points in clinical practiceof acupuncture and moxibustion. Many records of Baihui point(GV20) can befound in ancient literature of the past dynasties, but they all lacksystematical analysis of it. By the traditional method of documentationscience and with the aid of computer retrieval, the author collected theinformation related to Baihui point(GV20) from ancient literature of the pastdynasty, classified them into different category and made analysis andresearch on them. After the retrieval, the author found1525pieces of usefulinformation form168ancient literature books, and made them into5parts,including the name, location, channel tropism, indication and method ofacupuncture and moxibustion of Baihui point(GV20). According to the research,Baihui point(GV20) totally has10names, such as Baihui, Dianshang,SanyangWuhui, Niwan, etc. The location mode of Baihui point(GV20) includessurface landmark, bone proportional measurement, combination of surfacelandmark and bone proportional measurement, and corroboration by other points.The author also analyzed the order in which the7kinds of channel tropismof Baihui point(GV20) appeared from the angle of historical evolution.Moreover, the author sorted the indications that only related to Baihuipoint(GV20) according to the clinical branches listed on the nationalappointed textbooks for higher academy of traditional Chinese medicine. Thesebranches include internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology, paediatrics,dermatology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology and orthopedics andtraumatology. By such classification, all the information is put into thecomputer to establish a data base. According to the statistic data, there are 51diseases and syndromes which only related to Baihui point(GV20). The formerthree are prolapse of anus, headache, and epilepsy. Besides, this thesisanalyzed the method of acupuncture and moxibustion from the aspects ofacupuncture reinforcement and reduction, acupuncture deepness, and theaccount and size of moxa cone used in the treatment.
