A Clinic Study On Treating Simple Obesity Of Spleen Dampness Type With Penetration At The Selected Eight Points Around Umbilicus

Objective:To observe the clinical effects of simple obesity treated with penetration needling at the selected eight points around umbilicus.Method:1. Based on the strict diagnostic criteria, inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria and efficacy of assessment criteria,40cases of simple obesity of spleen dampness type were randomly divided into Penetration Needling Group and Perpendicular Needling Group.2. Both groups selected8acupoints-TienShu(2)、DaHeng(2)、HuaRouMen(2)、WaiLing(2)、 ZhangWan(2)、ShueiFen、GuanYuan、QiHai, then connected acupoints TienShu(left) and QiHai、 TienShu(right) and ShueiFen、DaHeng(left) and Zhang Wan、DaHeng(right) and GuanYuan with four pairs of electro-needles which have positive and negative electrodes at both ends. Thereafter, density waves were passed through for30min at tolerable levels. After30min, electro-needles were retained for another15min on each acupuncture point. This method was practiced every other day and15practices in total as a complete course of treatment. For the Penetration Needling Group,1.5-cun needles were punctured horizontally to the umbilicus, approximately1.2-1.5-cun deep; For Perpendicular Needling Group,1.5-cun needles were punctured perpendicularly to the points, approximately1.2-cun deep.3. Prior to and after each treatment, measurements including weight, BMI, waist and hip circumferences and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) were recorded, then the recorded values which have been quantified were assessed.Results:1. The treatments adopted in Penetration Needling Group and Perpendicular Needling Group were both effective, with the total efficiency of70%and60%respectively. There was no statistic difference(P<0.05).2. After treatments, the improvements on BMI, waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) were remarkable for patients treated in Penetration Needling Group and Perpendicular Needling Group(P<0.05).However, the treatments in Penetration Group showed more outstanding on the improvement of spleen dampness index.(P<0.05). Conclusion:Treatments in both Penetration Needling Group and Perpendicular Needling Group were proved to be effective on the treatment of simple obesity of spleen dampness types at the selected eight acupoints around umbilicus. However, patients treated in the Penetration Needling Group showed more effective in the long-term. It was more remarkable on the improvements of patients’waists and hips circumferences and the characteristics of spleen dampness.
