Objective:This study was designed to detect the level of serum VEGF-A and VEGFR-2in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC), and investigate the relationship between circulating level of VEGF-A and VEGFR-2and tumor metastase to lymphatic node in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. To assess the clinical significance of circulating level of VEGF-A and VEGFR-2and the predicting lymph node metastasis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients. Methods:The soluble form of VEGF-A and VEGFR-2levels in sera of32primary NPC patients,9relapsed NPC patients,21complete remission patients,6NPC patients with distant metastasis, and20healthy controls were quantitatively measured by ELISA in comparison with the relationship between and clinical characters and between TNM stage. Results:Serum levels of VEGF-A and VEGFR-2in primary NPC patients,in relapsed NPC patients were significantly higher than those in healthy controls(P<0.01,P<0.01).There were no significant difference between sera leves of VEGF-A and VEGFR-2in complete remission patients and healthy controls(P>0.05).There was correlation between t the serum levels of VEGF-A and VEGFR-2(r=0.810,P<0.05).Conclusions:It is suggested that there is correlation between the development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and levels of VEGF-A and VEGFR-2in sera of NPC patients. The concentration of VEGF-A and VEGFR-2could be used as index to determine whether progression of tumor. Measuring of serum VEGF-A and VEGFR-2could be as a useful index to determine whether there is lymph node metastasis in NPC patients.
