Doctor-patient relationship is a special type of relationship between individuals. This term has two definitions in both broad and narrow sense. In narrow sense, this relationship means the relationship between health professionals and patients. In broad sense, it means the interactions and relationships between patients and their family members and health professionals and their healthcare organizations in the course of healthcare. In contemporary China,"asking for health professionals’help" is no longer the normal behavior of patients and their family members. Once arriving at hospitals, they often become hypercritical and feel unsatisfactory. Some patients and family members even hurt clinical practitioners. Occasionally, some patients are unable to pay the medical fee. Medical disputes occur increasingly, which provide "high-quality" materials for mass media. All these phenomena indicate an odd current situation:doctors and patients are conflicting with each other. As a clinical practitioner, I am confusing by such situation, but in the meantime, I have rich experiences of doctor-patient relationship. In this thesis, through the perspective of public policy, I describe the current condition of the relationship between doctors and patients, and analyze why the condition happens, and propose how to improve the condition. I hope this research will provide some useful references for public policy-makers to reduce and eliminate the conflicts between doctors and patients.
