Introduction: This study aims to investigate whether there are differences aboutthe levels of PTEN and pAkt in the nasal epithelial cells between CRSsNP patientsand healthy people. And also aims to find out what is the relationship of PTEN andpAkt in nasal epithelial cells.Method:23Patients were recruited from the outpatient clinic of the Departmentof Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, China-Japan Union Hospital fromSeptember2011to September2012, And18healthy people are volunteers. All thepeople are assessed by visual analogue scale, CT scan and nasal endoscope.Culturing the nasal epithelial cells which are collected from them and sitmuli thecells with cigarette smoke and Human Rhinovirus-1B, and then measure the levelof pAkt and PTEN by Western Blot.Result: The levels of PTEN and pAkt are both higher in the nasal epithelial cellsof CRSsNP patients than in healthy volunteers(p<0.001).Conclusion: It is believed that PTEN can inhibit the expression of pAkt, and highlevel of pAkt is always accompanied with low level of PTEN. While we find that thebasal lines of pAkt and PTEN in CRSsNP patients are both higher than in healthypeople. This means PTEN and pAkt may belongs to different pathways, and there isonly a link between the two pathway. Or maybe there are some unknown factors incertain disease that can regulate the expression of PTEN and pAkt. All of theserequire further research.
