Objective: To explore the role of serum leptin concerntration and BMI withthe growth and development of shool-age children who was bron appropriatefor gestational age and identify their relationship. We observed the key factorswith growth and development of these children and detected their serum leptinlevels, compute their body mass index, investigated the effect of the changes ofserun leptin levels and body mass index and their relationship on the growthand development of these children. We hope that this research can providesome theoretical foundations for clinical treatment of school-age children whowas bron appropriate for gestational age with idiopathic short stature. Methods: Screeninged the patients with short stature visiting the ThirdHospital of Hebei Province from Feb.2011to Dec.2012were diagnosed bydetailed medical history collection, physical examination and laboratoryexamination.A total of35children to meet the requirements were included inthe idiopathic short stature group.26healthy children bron appropriate forgestational age were included in contral group. The concentrations of serumleptin in two groups were detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. The BMI in the two groups were computed by formula. The hight of all thechildren were measured at the same condition. All results were analyzed by ttest and pearson correlation test.Results:①The concentrations of serum leptin was242.26±58.95incontral group and209.28±65.68in idiopathic short stature group, and statisticdifference is existed between the two groups(p=0.047<0.05).②The BMI was17.72±1.50in contral group and16.15±2.43in idiopathic short staturegroup, and statistic difference is existed between the two groups(p=0.005<0.05).③The concentrations of serum leptin was no statistic difference in gender.④There was correlation between the concentrations of serum leptinand BMI in control group(r=0.951,p=0.000<0.05), There was correlationbetween the concentrations of serum leptin and BMI in idiopathic short staturegroup(r=0.809,p=0.000<0.05).Conclusions:1Both serum leptin and BMI have certen effection on growth anddevelopment of school-age children.2The serum leptin was no statistic difference in gender,no matter what thegroup was.3There was correlation between serum leptin and BMI.4Fat children with short stature may have leptin resistance, leanness childrenwith short stature may have less serum leptin or lower expression ofob-receptor than normal children.
