A Comparative Study On Chinese Modern Association And Modern Secret Societies

Chinese Modern Associations and Modern Secret Societies are the two kinds of social groups in Chinese modern society. They arise in different historical periods, belonging to different class and stratum and having special effect in the history in modern China.Chinese Modern Association originated in the Iatel9th century around the Reform Movement of 1898. It is the result of Reform thought and the detailed idea of Western Sociology. Modern Association and Modern Secret Societies simultaneously appeared in Chinese modern society. But there are differences in social component, value orientation, social behavior, influence upon later generations, and so on.In terms of Social component, most members of Association are patriotic intellectuals and other patriots. But most members of Secret Societies are bankruptcy workers and some poor people who have not received a good education; In terms of value orientation, Association figured in salvaging the country and enriched people as their responsibility. But Secret Societies were underway activities to help each other for internal through building feudal family relation by blood in order not to be bullied; In terms of social behavior, the former was engaged in academic research and patriotic political movement. But the latter existed predatory for external, carried out a large number of illegal and criminal acts, except activities to help each other for internal. There are so many differences between them brought on contrary influences on society:Chinese Modern Association trained revolutionist and other pilots of culture and thought as a cradle, in modern history, and have a positive constructiveness and the manner of navigation. However, Modern Secret Societies, as a feudal group, has its own backwardness. So the negative destruction to society is also very prominent.This paper, by taking Chinese Modern Association and Modern Secret Societies as the research object, grasps the starting point of differences in social component, value orientation, and social behavior between them, trying to analyze the different influences on society and seeking the organizing and developing rules in modern China.This can promote the standardized management on Association by the relevant departments, and prevent people who attempt to take advantage of the blinded masses with ulterior motives to organize the reactionary group.
