The Research Of Jazz Development Course And Jazz Current Situation In China

Jazz is considered to be the highlight of musical cultural phenomenon in the twentieth century, and its style changes with the passage of time. Nevertheless, it is easy to observe that its evolution has a close connection with the variation in terms of politics, cultural ideology, social psychology and morality and ethics from the historical perspective. The originated form of Jazz, that is to say, is the result of conflict and fusion of different cultures with its artistic characteristics of senses’swing and impromptu playing, which bears a kinship with the collision and integration of the western culture and that of Africa. With the development in the fields of politics, economy, military and culture throughout the 1950s, Jazz invariably mirrors the vicissitudes of the society by itself. After that, Jazz finds another hybrid point in the advent of rock and roll. From 1970s up to now, Jazz has been developed many new types based on the incorporation and composition, at its initiative stage, Jazz is the blending of two races but nowadays it becomes the integration of the world.Over a long period, because of sorts of reasons, the domestic academic field pays less attention to this unique foreign musical culture, which leads to misunderstandings. For instance, it can be ideologically thought that Jazz is a piece of syncopated rhythm for dance music, or it is conceptually connected with vulgar, kitsch, outlet of physical emotion. With the emerging of new disciplines such as the Music of Anthropology, and some new research methods introduced into China, people’s attitudes toward the knowledge of Jazz are greatly changed. However, whether it is in musical ideology or in cultural conception, the research of Jazz in China is far from enough.This paper tries to briefly introduce the schools and the styles of popular music, and people’s cognition of popular music as well, by analyzing the origin, development and traits of popular music. Then it further analyzes the musical cultural appearance of Jazz mentioned above with the reception of popular music in China, the development of Jazz and the factors restraining the development of Jazz in China, etc. It aims to reveal the culture of itself and its social properties, to elaborate the body of the jazz features with the change of social structures and to interpret its aesthetic distinction and critical discourse. In the era of the panic prevailed of the ending of art, let’s prospect its bright future in the new century.
