Research On The Development Of Jazz Piano Music And Its Influence On Chinese Music

Jazz, emerging from the harbor city of New Orleans in the south of USA, combines Blues composed by American blacks with Ragtime developed from European classical music;therefore it owns the strong national color just from the very beginning and then it produces the "Cosmopolitan Nature", The evolvement of jazz has the commercial property with the development of urban life. This makes it possible that jazz becomes the ancestor of modern popular music for it possesses the nature of cosmopolitism, urbanization and commercialism.Piano, as the most essential musical instrument in jazz , has made a great contribution to the development of jazz. Furthermore, jazz pianists, carrying on the performing style of classical piano music, form their unique performing thoughts and skills and bring about many musical sects. As a result, a lot of classic musical works come into being, which, on the contrary , influence the composition of those classical musicians. This thesis aims at the research on the development of jazz and jazz piano music. It also makes the analysis of the sects of piano music, its performing styles and skills, and its musical attributes. Moreover, it explores the jazz's impact on the Chinese musical culture and the developing situation of jazz piano music in China.The thesis can be divided into three parts:The first part: the emerging background of jazz piano music.The second part: the characteristics of jazz piano music, its musical sects and performing styles.The third part: the development of jazz and jazz piano music in China.Nowadays, jazz piano music, regarded as an important form of performance and just depending on the unique character , has been affecting the composition and evolvement of world music , especially the popular music. The author, a teacher working on music education ,has the responsibility to make some research and analysis on this musical phenomenon in order to better the teaching methods in the future.
