This paper, through reviewing the grammar exercise of six representative intermediate andadvanced Chinese Intensive Reading from the aspects of question quantity, type, layout design ofthe exercises and the practice design of concrete language points, attempts to discover thesimilarities and differences of the grammar exercise writing in each textbook, thus summarizingthe advantages and disadvantages of each practice design and promoting “nuts-and-bolts”suggestions.This study consists of five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction. The second chapterprovides the theoretical base and the quantitative analysis standard in this study. The thirdchapter makes a statistical analysis of the strength of question quantity, total question quantity,grammar question quantity and grammar question types in each text book. The fourth chaptermakes a comparative analysis of the layout of grammar exercise in the six textbooks from threeaspects, which are the overall design, the content arrangement and the distribution of questiontypes. The fifth chapter does a case study of the exercise of the concrete language point“directional complement”, this study reviews the shortcomings existing in the practice design ofthe concrete language points. The last conclusive part summarizes the features of practice designin the selected textbooks, proposes suggestions for the writing of grammar exercise and pointsout the limitations of this study. It is hoped that this study will play the role of information andhelp in the practice design and writing of intermediate and advanced Chinese Intensive Readingin the future.
