As an important part of textbooks, the design and layout of the reading textbooks’exercises can not be ignored. This is because that reading is procedural knowledge learning, mainly through a lot of practice operations to achieve the training goals. Textbook writers in the preparation of reading textbooks should attaches particular importance to the design and preparation, to help learners to improve their Chinese reading level. This article,selected four elementary Chinese Reading Textbooks over the past decade which have representatives, researched from three aspects of their exercise,such as the quantity of exercise, the form of exercise, and the content of exercise, with the theoretical of linguistics, psychology, second language teaching and learning theory and textbooks theory, made a relatively detailed quantitative statistical analysis, through analysis and discussion of problems, made a number of reasonable and feasible proposals, to provide a reference for the preparation and evaluation of the exercise of elementary Chinese reading textbooks and provide a basis for in-depth study.In exercise quantity, the article examines total amount of exercises of the four textbooks, the distribution of exercises of the four textbooks and exercises required for each class completed. Through statistical analysis of the amount of exercises, it found that the amount of the four textbooks’ exercises and the law and the inadequacies of the exercises’ distribution, then made some possible relevant recommendations to solve these problems.In exercise form, the statistical analysis of the selection of exercise form, including the type of the form of four textbooks’ exercise, distribution, five kinds of exercise form with the highest frequency as well as the sole topics of exercise form used in the four textbooks. On the basis of statistical analysis, this article summarizes the law of exercise form in the design and layout and its problems, using the teaching textbooks related to exercise to write theoretical analysis, puts forward some reasonable proposals.In exercise content, the exercises are divided into five areas of Chinese Character exercises, voice exercises, vocabulary exercises, text practice, skill exercises and other exercises. Firstly, it examines these six aspects of the overall distribution of exercise in the four textbooks with statistics analysis. Then it examines the five aspects of statistical data in each textbook. In this article, with the statistical analysis of data results, analysis of the reasonableness of the arrangement and design of the exercise contents in these four textbooks, it reflects the distribution law and the existence of inadequacies. It puts forward some reasonable proposals, which combined with the theory.In this article, it research and analysis on the exercise of the four Elementary Chinese textbooks, from exercise quantity, exercise form, exercise content three areas. There are some commonalities, but also has its own characteristics. From the character and individuality, we can see the basic law, the development trend and the lack of the elementary Chinese reading textbooks’exercise.This article with the theoretical of linguistics, psychology, second language teaching and learning theory and textbooks theory, combined with the results of statistical research data, summarizes the distribution of the law and the inadequacies of Elementary Chinese reading textbooks, gave some suggestions for reference to elementary Chinese reading textbook writers.
