Exercise of Vocabulary is an important part in exercises of foreigners’ Chineselearning, in which exercise plays an essential role. In the medium stage of teachingChinese as a foreign language, the fundamental target is to help the students toenlarge their vocabulary and let them communicate without great difficulties.Therefore, the exercise of vocabulary is the best approach to help the languagelearners to understand and master the words and expressions. In reviewing the papersin relation to teaching Chinese as a foreign language, the research on exercises alwayssubjects to that of the textbooks, and the specialized research on vocabulary exerciseis even rare. As a result, the research on vocabulary exercise is of great significance toboth the teaching and the students’ language learning.The thesis is divided into five parts. The first part shows the panorama of thebackground of the research, the domestic and abroad status-quo and the target of theresearch. The second part introduces the concepts and theories involved in theresearch. In the third and the fourth parts, statistics has been made from the aspects ofthe quantity and variety of the exercises chosen from the3versions of mid-levelcomprehensive Chinese textbook in order to make a comparative study on thecharacteristics of these textbooks and to make an analysis on the reasons for suchcharacteristics. In the fifth part, besides the disadvantages that the author has foundout during the research, the specialized suggestions targeted to the quantity andvariety of the exercises in mid-level comprehensive Chinese textbooks are given inthe hope of improving the quality of the Textbooks in this field.
