Choice And Reconstruction Of Chinese Book Design In Traditions And Modern Variations

The Humanity gave birth to civilization and civilization was endowed with eternity due to the invention of books. As the carrier of materialized civilization, books have a long history and glorious tradition in our nation. Chinese people devised ingenious paper-making and book-binding techniques; such is the origin of books. Book has undergone incessant progress and development during two millenniums in China. It has played a predominant role in the world with its special oriental features. However, today’s book-designing in China has absorbed the advanced technique and innovative ideas from the west. Granted, such innovation and originality in the west have greatly invigorated our book-designing, however, blindly copying western style is detrimental to our progress.A problem that has beleaguered us now is the lack of traditional Chinese features in designing. We should cease to adopt visual language of the west, instead, we should resort to traditional aesthetic taste including the square-block characters, Chinese calligraphy, etc. In this era of globalization and modernization, book designers in China are confronted with the conflict between modern features and tradition. Assimilating foreign culture is surely beneficial, however, it is not advisable to desert our own civilization. Today’s technological breakthroughs, civilization and comfortable lifestyles are primarily attributed to the contributions made by our predecessors. Ancestors’ wisdom and creations have nourished us for generations. Similarly, our accomplishments today will also be inherited by our descendants and will benefit them in the foreseeable future. Continuation of wisdom, undoubtedly, is of tremendous significance. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to integrate Chinese culture with international fashion in our book-design. First of my article analyses the characteristics appearing of Chinese traditional decorative art of book in each step,and ascertain it embodies design ideas and culture, and good continuation of the force based on analyzing material technical characteristics and cultural forms.Explore the various stages of design is how to adapt to the needs of the community, how to retain the traditional historical and cultural changes, but also how to better cultural integration, which reflects their deep-seated spiritual values.Primarily, we should get acquainted with the history and the modernity continuation of traditional book decoration design in China. Also, we should understand why Chinese books are able to successfully endure the test of time. Understanding inherent laws for book-designing and familiarizing with the integration of tradition with modernization in book-design are of equal importance as well. The combination of tradition with modernization, is the essence of the thesis.
