Hami Muqam, characterized by its long history and distinctively uniquegeographical feature among the different kinds of Muqam, is one of the mostimportant parts of Xinjiang Uygur Muqam. On the basis of literature analysis andfield investigation, this paper put Muqam into the context of its livingspace—TAOJIAGONG country, to study and investigate into its present states ofinheritance. The paper then take the inheritance of Muqam in TAOJIAGONGcountry as the main clue, by sorting out and analyzing the relevant document andacademic finding, in accordance with first-hand material deriving from the fieldinvestigation, with the adoption of inter-disciplinary theory and methodology, toanalyze the living environment, historical origin, and the unique artistic form ofMuqam, and also initiate the preliminary research on present state of the artist ofMuqam, the troupe of Muqam and the way of its inheritance.Apart from introduction and conclusion, the main body of this paper is dividedinto four part.The first part of the paper try to reveal the relation between the regional featureof Muqam and the circumstance where Muqam exist by reviewing the geographicalposition, ecological environment, ethnic composition, religion, fork lore of Muqam.The second part of the paper give a brief analysis of the formation of Muqamand the characteristic of its musical morphology from the following four aspect: thefirst one is its historical origin, the second one is its distribution and different version,the third one is its musical structure and subsection, the last one is the presentcondition of remaining accompaniment.The third part studies the status of the inheritance of Muqam in TAOJIAGONGcountry. This part concentrate its on the introduction of main Muqam troupe inTAOJIAGONG country, the successor of the art, the form of inheritance(spontaneously imparting from mater to his disciple in local community, condenseimparting by launch a Muqam training section, or the form of Muqam in Qokmaxrap cultural space). Also, through the elaborate dipiction of Qok maxrap festivity held by the A Muti·Yimiti family in ShangZhuangzi village, TAOJIAGONGcountry, the paper illustrate the musical form of Muqam and the living circustanceof maxrap.The fourth part of the paper reflect the present subsistence of Muqam, and thenoffer its advice. According to the present condition of inheritance of Muqam art inTAOJIAGONG country, the paper conclude two point: the subsistence of Muqam inthe context of cultural evolution and the role of individual in passing down theMuqam art, the paper then offer its advice on how to preserve this cultural heritageand pass down this art.
