Lop Nur culture is an indispensable part of ancient Uyghur culture. Lop Nurpeople has developed a unique living customs through generations partly due toisolated geographical location of Lop Nur region. Therefore, the culture of Lop Nuris still different from the multi-leveled Uyghur culture. Some of the differencescan be seen in the Lop Nur folk tales. Lop Nur folk tales, on the other hand, is awonderful and colorful form of Uyghur folk tales. The unique methods ofexpressions and narratives have made Lop Nur folk tales different from the sametype of Uyghur folk stories. Even though some scholars have collected and studiedLop Nur folk songs as a part of Lop Nur culture, the Lop Nur tales have remainedunexplored. As a beginning step to fill this gap, in this paper, I will share mypreliminary studies about Lop Nur folk tales.This paper includes three chapters. In the first Chapter, the collection of LopNur folk tales will be introduced, which is rich in variety and content. The secondChapter includes several contents, such as descriptions of the forms, structures, andcharacteristics of Lop Nur folk tales, these will be categoriesed as well. In thisChapter, names of Lop Nur dialect will also be introduced as they can reveal theprimitive culture of the Lop Nur folk tales regarding to its regional sources, andvarious religious practices of Lop Nur people. Then in the third Chapter, datacollected from field survey and interview about the heritage of the Lop Nur folk taleswill be discussed. Furthermore, the characteristic value, educational value, andpsychological role of Lop Nur folk tales will be analysed.
