As SLA research and FLT research have made a series of breakthrough to helpsecond/foreign language learners and so as to improve their verbal fluency, they alsobrought about great challenge to improve learners’ conceptual fluency, which has beenproposed by Danesi (1993) as the ultimate task of foreign language learning. As the ideaof conceptual competence has been approved as crucial as linguistic and communicativecompetence, many researchers and scholars set about to investigate the nature ofconceptual fluency and its important roles in second/foreign language learning andteaching.The present study tries every endeavor to analyze the current situation of theacquisition of the particle verbs among36English majors in Yan’an University and find out some effective measures to improve particle verbs learning based on the perspectiveof conceptual fluency. To do so, an empirical survey is conducted among36subjects toinvestigate the Chinese EFL learners’ learning condition of particle verbs by way oftracing study within period of32weeks. And most importantly, a great amount of workhas been done to inspect the deep correlation between the use of particle verbs among thesubjects and Conceptual Fluency with the help of Error Analysis and by way of analyzingthe empirical results. At last, a series of conductive measures of acquiring particle verbsare put forward from the domain of conceptual fluency.To conclude, the study finally is conducted by providing the implications andapplications for second/foreign language learning and teaching on particle verbs andenlightenment for further study.
