On" The Ugliness" Of The Modern Western Aesthetic

Since the1980s more and more domestic scholars begin to pay close attention to"ugliness". Strictly speaking,"ugliness" is a modern western aesthetic category, itappeared in the end of the nineteenth century. Therefore, it is necessary to comb"ugliness" to our aesthetic category construction.This dissertation has three parts in all.In the first part of the dissertation, it describes "ugliness" concept in modern westernaesthetic. I think modern is also a historic concept, in which the ugliness concept alsopresents the corresponding state. Therefore, this paper collects and sorts out the point ofview on "ugliness", combine with their own philosophy on the basis of the theory ofinterpretation and value of evaluation. The first part about RosenKranz’s "uglyaesthetics","ugliness" started as an independent aesthetic concept and has become anunavoidable problem directly into an esthetician vision; and then discuss Baudelaire andNietzsche’s ugliness aesthetics concept, ugliness faced directly in art and theory,especially Nietzsche, he considered ugliness is the performance of subject irrational forcewill, it reflects the vitality of high-spirited; Along with the further development ofmodern western society,"ugliness" was taken to its extreme form, that is absurd,aesthetic activity has become the ugliness’ world; Finally, Adorno combine the modernwestern art, considered "ugliness" by self-denial to criticize the reality of society, inorder to achieve the purpose of salvation.In the second part, it analyzes the reasons of the “ugliness” becoming theindependent aesthetic concept in modern west. First of all, the modern western society;Secondly, the spirit of irrational rise gradually; Again, aesthetic ideas of modern peoplechanged. In the third part, it reveals the significance of the study on "the ugliness" of modernaesthetic. This paper argues that, ugliness category is formed in the specific culturalcontext, therefore, the study on ugliness concept in modern western aesthetics that isgreat significant for the aesthetic category construction and aesthetic system perfecting;At the same time, it is very important for us to know how to understand large Numbers ofugly art in modern western.
