In1853, Rosenkranz published the Aesthetics of Ugliness, in which the author points out that "Although ugliness is not within the scope of beauty, yet it is all along determined by the relevancy of beauty". Ugliness, therefore, is also included in the study scope of aesthetic theories, marking that ugliness has become a real and unique aesthetic form. The art of ugliness takes ugly things as aesthetic objects so as to invoke negative emotions and judgments of people. In the development history of China’s contemporary literature, pioneering novelists, by virtue of the art of ugliness as a sharp weapon, boldly revolted and subverted traditional aesthetic system, having made remarkable achievements.This Article conducts aesthetic analysis based on the art of ugliness adopted by pioneering novels. First of all, it expounds the expressed objects and expression modes of the art of ugliness in pioneering novels from the perspective of texts of these novels as well as conducting value analysis of this unique means of artistic expression. Second, pioneering novels are inundated with a number of ugly images, which will be bound to cause ugliness fatigue due to the overflowing ugliness. And this article focuses on the analysis of this issue. At the end of the article, it conducts influence study of the art of ugliness in pioneering novels since the influence of art of ugliness in pioneering novels, no matter from the perspectives of texts or from acceptance of readers, is profound.This article hopes to introspect the aesthetic value and aesthetic issues of art of ugliness through its analysis of the art of ugliness in pioneering novels so as to better grasp the art of ugliness, an important paradigm belonging to aesthetics.
