Oil painting is well know as colourful and varied in postures owing to itsdevelopments. How to paint, what to paint and in which way to make more creativework is a consistent topic discussed by oil painters nowadays. As a university studentacquiring a master degree in the major of oil painting, Often I think of questions of thesame terrace, trying to deepen inner-meaning from those preeminent works produced bythe masters. Viewing the entire history of oil-painting development, I recognized thatit’s the artists draw from the nature as well as the paintings by meditating themselvesand find the marrow that would bring mature pieces of oil-painting, they are theoutcomes by meticulous and systematic thought action in the procession for solvingquestions.The author is trying by the way of analyzing the prominent works from theoil-painting masters as to settle the main studying point from “find question” to “resolvequestion”, and basing on the issue of “question situation” to relate and analyze differentcircumstances in the different development styles, the author is also trying to talk aboutthe artworks produced by the querying and researching art itself from the artists. In thefirst chapter, the author will cut into the topic of “observation and discovering”, putforward “observation and discovering” as the base and premise of oil-painting. Great oilpainters usually equipped with distinguished observing methods and the reason for thatis because the artists are always eager to and adept in observing, as we sometimes callthem “observing eyes”. In the second chapter, the author will discuss the relationshipbetween “question-finding and picture-performance” in way of both subjective andobjective, aiming to solve questions as follows: Whether an artist can solve or expressan art question once he found it? And whether after the question settled it also means hehas already shaped his art style? Once his art style settled, will he maintain it in future?The thesis will attempt to discover the inter-relationship between the both sides. And inchapter three, the thesis will start with “self-expression and self art–style formation”,base on PRINCIPLES OF ART HISTORY from Heinrich wolfflin, to probe into theformation of art style, which rooted in self-expression, and furthermore, in the contrary,self-expression make the art-style advanced. In the forth chapter, as the last chapter, thethesis will come to demonstrate that the innovation of oil-painting will be exploredconsistently and be more complete in the procession of resolving art questions. Based the discussions and studies above, the thesis will analyze and prove that theformation and creation of art-style is not such things as people call “disassemble andassemble patterning”, and of course, it is still further not the whitewashing or larking of“self-patterning”, but to find art question and solve art question in oil-painting itself.From the inner of it we can not only scan the creation of oil-painting but also scan themodalities and substance of the picture, as well as the wielding of painting materials.And in this way it will also help us to make unceasing studies about the formation ofoil-painting style and the creation of it as well. Every step of painting work has itsquestion-circumstances which is obvious or not due to various accounts, so theoil-painting development must keep pace with the times and society. Still, owing to thedevelopment of our times and society always accompanies with new“question-circumstances”, hereby, at the same time, the artists should face thesequestions, and make innovative works in the process of solving questions.
