This thesis examines Harry Potter from the perspective of post-colonialism andtwo concepts of “Other” and “Subaltern” are applied to the study of the series. Thefirst three Chapters give an introduction to the novel, its author and the post-colonialtheory. Chapter Four devotes to analyze Harry Potter with the support of the conceptof “Other”. Through the analysis of the “Other” images in the series, this thesis mayreveal to us the racial, class and gender “Others” that are marginalized by the society.Chapter Five discusses the issue of “Subaltern” based on Spivak’s theory of subalternand voice, which will make a closer interpretation of racial, class and genderdifferences respectively.Through an analysis of different images in Harry Potter, this thesis reveals thatHarry Potter is not a multicultural work. Through analyzing the unfairness betweendifferent races, classes and genders, the author hopes that this thesis will do a ratherconsiderate contribution to furthering the current studies on Harry series to thesummit.
