| In general, sustained economic growth is always accompaniedby urbanization development. But, In African, The process ofurbanization is not the product of the industrial economic prosperity.Rapid urbanization in Africa is mainly caused by the blindimmigration of rural population. This article is to analyze the linkbetween internal displacement, forced migration and urbanization,and to sum up the inevitable consequences of the path of rapidurbanization.Greater Khartoum is the largest and most affluent city in Sudan.Its population has increased steadily since the colonial era, withmost growth having occurred in the last three decades. Itspopulation growth has been a result of an influx of people pushedout of their homes by civil strife, the collapse of the peasant farmingeconomy and successive waves of drought and desertification.Mechanization growth of urban population in khartoum has alsoaccelerated the process of urbanization in two ways: the size of thepopulation and urban spatial expansion. This massive urbanimmigration has contributed to escalating unemployment rates,fuelled poverty and congestion, and placed a huge strain on thecity’s traditional infrastructure and service delivery system. This Paper is divided into four chapters to discuss internallydisplaced persons and urbanization issues in khartoum:Chapter 1 States and introduces the causes and patterns ofurban displacement, population size, and the living condition ofIDPs in khartoum including the employment and economicconditions, access to public services, social and cultural change,discrimination and marginalization.Chapter 2 mainly analyzes the link between internaldisplacement and urbanization. It analyzes the coming of internallydisplaced persons makes an ignorant impact to populationexpansion and urbanization, urban spatial expansion and planning,urban economic development, urban politics, urban safety and theurban environment in detail.Chapter 3 describes a series of policies and measures taken bythe Sudanese national government, the international communityand China, according to the issues of IDPs and urban poverty inKhartoum. In the meanwhile, it analyzes the internationalparticipation on the process of urbanization in Khartoum.The last section of this paper summarizes internally displacedpersons and urbanization in Khartoum, Points out the drawbacks ofthe model of urbanization and wishes urban displacement can beeffectively solved by national governments or the internationalcommunity in legal and policy level. |
