The Research Of Chen Tingjing And His Poetry

Chen Tingjing is an important statesman, thinker and litterateurin Early Qing Dynasty. Although many scholars did much research onhim and his works, there still exists much room for the studies. Exceptthe research on his political achievements and poetry, other aspectshaven’t been fully extended. In the paper, taking Chen Tingjing and hispoetry as objects, the focus is put on the study of the literatures andthe analysis of works. Apart from the introduction and conclusion, thepaper is divided into two parts.The first part is about the family of Chen Tingjing and himself.There are two chapters: the first one is the study of Chen Tingjing’sfamily. As one of the famous family of imperial examination in ShanxiProvince, there once appeared“six academician, nine jinshi”in thefamily. This phenomenon was close related to the politicalenvironment of the Early Qing Dyansty, the financial support of hisfamily and the good family tradition. However, there is few studies inthis field. Therefore, the paper tries to do some research to unveil themystery of Chen family. The second chapter is about Chen Tingjinghimself. Firstly, some research is done on the doubts about ChenTingJing’s official careers and his life. The other part is about thesumarry of his contributions in politics and culture, in order to have a better understanding of Chen TingJing.The second part is the study of Chen Tingjing’s poetry, whichmainly focuses on the classification and appreciation of his poetry. Atthe same time, this part does some discussion on the achievementsand defects of Chen Tingjing’s poetry, so as to ascertain his status inthe poetic circles in Early Qing Dynasty.With the local advantages, the paper does some analysis andresearch on Chen Tingjing’s family and his life with the combination oflocal chronicles, tablet inscriptions and other literatures.
