Shipping news, as a window of information of shipping industry, has been paid more and more attention. Shipping news is transferring information, and influencing the development tendency of shipping industry and other related industries all the time. China, as one of import-export powers, its development of shipping industry is critical, so shipping information is fairly important. Therefore, in this thesis, shipping news was chosen as the study subject, corpus linguistics was selected as the study basis, and the software WordSmith was used as the tool. The comparison was made between self-build corpora, MNEWS and GNEWS. The analysis was made on the vocabulary from shipping news through the software, generating a number of positive key words with keyness of different degrees. According to their keyness and other statistics, the positive key words were categorized into groups and analyzed respectively. In order to find out the features of positive key words, characters of distribution and rules of collocation, and to bring some inspirations for language teaching.The findings of the present study are as follows:1) Compared with general news, the positive key words of shipping news are mostly related to shipping or maritime, and most of them are nouns;2) shared words are mostly distribute evenly, while peculiar words show obvious areas of congregation;3) In function, both of the categories show some tendency to collocate with definite neighbors, only that the neighbors of the peculiar words are much fewer and more fixed. There are even some peculiar words shifting only within several phrases.The results of the study show some theoretical significance and pedagogical implication for vocabulary learning and teaching.
