The Behavior And FMRI Research Of Altruistic Deception

Deception is widespread in nature and human society. The deception is divided into altruistic and egoistic lie.Previous studies focus on the research of egoistic deception,but lack of research to distinguish the differences.This study uses differentiation of deception paradigm to distinguish the differences of the lies under altruistic and egoistic context in order to investigate their cognitive and neural mechanisms.Study 1 was a preliminary experiment,initially exploring the differences between honest and deception under altruistic and egoistic context.48 college students were asked to complete two kinds of task under two context.Under the altruistic context, telling truth about target stimulus is faster than irrelevant stimulus,but there is no significant differences when telling lies.Under the egoistic context,whether telling truth or lies the reaction speed about target stimulus are more quickly than irrelevant stimulus.In study 2,there were 66 subjects who participated.They were divided into two group,and they were asked to complete honest and deception tasks under altruistic context(36 participants)and egoistic context(30 participants).In order to Strengthen the involvement about the context,66 subjects were asked to complete a mock performance.The results showed there have no significant differences between telling lies and deception under altruistic context.Under the egoistic context,the index of reaction time have significant differences between telling lies and deception.In study 3,Functional magnetic resonance imaging technology has been used in experimental research.there were 25 subjects who participated.They were divided into two group,and they were asked to complete honest and deception tasks under altruistic context(14 participants)and egoistic context(11 participants).The results is similar with previous research that telling lies will activate more brain regions than telling truth.Under altruistic context,telling lies activate more brain regions,they are insula,middle frontal gyrus,cingulate gyrus,inferior frontal gyrus.Under the egoistic context,the parahippocampal gyrus,inferior frontal gyrus,middle occipital gyrus,Middle Occipital Gyrus are Additional activated.Inferior frontal gyrus was activated both under altruistic and egoistic context for response selection,inhibition and generation.
