Deception is the psychological process of deliberately causing others to accept false content and avoiding loss or gain benefits for themselves or others. The identification of deception and the cognitive neural mechanisms of deception are the two main directions of deception research.A total of 39 college students were recruited to study the deceptive brain activation status using functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI)in two tasks through conceal information test paradigm(CIT).Experiment 1 used a single factor design to examine the differences in brain activity between deception and honest responses to different stimuli. The independent variable can be divided into three levels: probe stimulus, irrelevant stimulus and target stimulus, and the dependent variables are behavioral indicators(accuracy, reaction time)and brain activation results. The behavioral data and brain imaging data of the subjects were collected through scenario experiments and fMRI experiments. In the second experiment,a two-factor within subject design was used to investigate the activation status of the brain under different scenarios and different types of stimulus. The independent variables are the situation type(truth;lies)and the type of stimulus(probe stimulus;target stimulus),and the dependent variables are behavioral indicators(accuracy, reaction time)and brain activation results. The results of experiment 1 showed that there was no significant difference in the accuracy or reaction time among different stimulus types.Brain imaging data showed significant activation of the right superior temporal gyrus, left lingual, superior cerebellum, and left middle occipital gyrus. The results of experiment 2 showed that the reaction time of probe stimulus was significantly longer than the target stimulus, the main effect of the situation and the interaction of the two factors were not significant in reaction time;the main effects of the situation and the stimulus were not significant in accuracy, the interaction of the two factors is significant. The results of simple effect analysis show that the accuracy of probe stimuli in the lie situation was lower than the target stimuli, while the result in the truth situation was opposite. The accuracy of probe stimuli in the lie situation is lower than the truth situation, and the result of the target stimuli is opposite. The activation of probe stimulus is higher than irrelevant stimulus in right superior temporal gyrus and left middle occipital gyrus, the activation of probe stimulus is higher than target stimulus in left lingual, cerebellar, right cuneus and right precuneus;the activation of lie situation is higher than truth situation in left fusiform, bilateral parietal inferior marginal angular gyrus, left superior marginal gyrus and right superior temporal gyrus.Result of analysis showed that the interaction effect of situation and stimulus types is significant in the activation in left hippocampus and right middle temporal gyrus.Under the conditions of the study, the following conclusions can be drawn: the deception process in the single truth situation involves the visual processing, episodic memory, divergent thinking and creative thinking processing, inhibition and theory of mind. The process of deception in different situations involves visual processing, episodic memory, logical reasoning process, divergent thinking and creative thinking processing, and theory of mind. The results support the theoretical model of the neural mechanism of deception.
