Adverb of degree is one subcategory of the Chinese adverb and its basic semantic function is that it means the degree,but it also often expresses the subjective feeling.It’s difficult to reveal how the subjective feeling of adverb of degree in the course of use functions and by what conditions the subjective feeling of adverb of degree is constrained in the course of use if the basic meaning of a word of adverb of degree and syntactic function of adverb of degree are considered separately.The theory of semantic prosody shows us that the implicit unclear subjective feeling of a word is closely related to the expression of textual semantic meaning and we can seek the expression of the semantic meaning of a word through the more discourse analysis.This is a new way of studying the subjective feeling of adverb of degree.The thesis summarizes previous research results,is on the basis of the theory of semantic prosody and selects linguistic data in the large-scale corpus randomly.The thesis studies representatives of adverb of degree which denotes a less degree in detail in order to seek the tendency of expression of the subjective meaning of adverb of degree and correlation between the tendency and type of discourse.The thesis selects shaowei,duoshao and youdian as representatives of adverb of degree which denotes a less degree and studies them from the perspective of expression of textual semantic meaning.There are six chapters in this thesis and the fourth part is the main body of this thesis.The first chapter is an introduction including the purpose and meaning of this research and study method of this thesis.The second chapter combs the previous researches of adverb of degree and reviews their contributions to this thesis and their limits.The third chapter introduces the theory of semantic prosody and relationship between the theory of semantic prosody and discourse and expounds the theoretical background of this thesis.The fourth chapter analyses shaowei, duoshao and youdian in a way of discourse analysis from the perspective of semantic prosody.The five chapter studies the relationship between adverb of degree and the subjective expression in the real discourse.The last chapter puts forward some advice about improving teaching.
