Agnostic Narrative Game

As a recently presented Chinese writer, Mai Jia has attracted lots of attention from both the professional area and the masses. However, since it’s not a long time since been known, the research on him is still not deep enough, especially lack of systematicness.In this thesis, I am trying to focus on two important characteristics in Mai Jia’s creations——"suspense" and "mystical", and in order to open Mai Jia’s literary world. On this basis, I hope to point out some possibility of the following Chinese writings.This article is divided into five parts:The first part is a general summarize about Mai Jia’s writings.The second part analyzes the existing papers about Mai Jia to show the importance of ""suspense" and "mystical" in Mai Jia’s works.Based on the second part, the third part talked about why "suspense" and "mystical" can be the specificity of Mai Jia’s writings, in another word, why are they special in modern Chinese writing. For this purpose, I will choose typical writers and typical works in both Chinese and foreign literature to do a contrast. In this way, I will point out the predicament of "suspense" and "mystical" in modern Chinese writing.The forth part uses textual analysis on Mai Jia’s four published novels to show how "suspense" and "mystical" are used in his works and the relationship between the two.The last part is trying to give out the possibility of the future Chinese writings through the experience of Mai Jia, and also points out the shortcomings of Mai Jia’s creation.
