Song Ci is a treasured literary heritage in China, not only does this kind of literary art make profound influence on the development of Chinese literature, but also play an important role in Chinese and foreign cultural exchange. However, there is always a void of a unified theory in study on Chinese poetry translation. In this situation, this thesis tries to provide a theory basis for the interpretation of translated text of ancient poetry through a new perspective of text interpretation.Li Qingzhao is a famous Ci poet in Song Dynasty, and was remembered by later generations for her great poetic achievement. Many scholars have tried to translate Li Qingzhao’s Ci poems and produced many translated texts. The theme and theme-inclination relevance theory provides a theoretical construct for constraining and interpreting the text from both macro and micro levels. It can be used as a scientific method to interpret the translated texts of Li Qingzhao’s Ci poems. In the process of research, the author first interprets the Ci poem of Yong Yu Le written by Li Qingzhao under the constraint of theme and theme-inclination relevance theory, then analyzes two English versions of Yong Yu Le from the perspective of the fusion of theme and theme inclination, which is also a standard of evaluating the quality of translated versions. Based on the case study, this thesis reaches a conclusion:theme and theme-inclination relevance theory has positive effect on translating and interpreting Chinese ancient poems. Translators should master the cognitive mechanism in which theme and theme-inclination relevance theory constraining sentence and word meaning, and correctly translate their contextual meaning under the control of theme and theme inclination relevance.
