A Study On Ma Shiying’s Literature

Much of the work studying Ma Shiying has concentrated on politics. Few researchers have made a study on his literature. For this limitation, this thesis contributes to the comprehensive research into Ma Shiying from both political and literature perspectives.The introduction makes a review of the research situation and on the base of which, it proposes the significance of the present study.Chapter1presents Ma Shiying’s family and his life story. Ma Shiying grew up under the nature of a splendid education in an official’s family in Guiyang. He had experienced two big periods in politics, one period that valued superior officials and the other period that valued intentional gentlemen. A review of the background including Ma Shiying’s family and his life story develops a foundation for a discussion of Ma Shiying and his literature.Chapter2analyzes Ma Shiying’s friendship. The circle of his friends includes scholars of Donglin faction, camarilla and officials, which makes Ma Shiying the special social and political status in the late Ming Dynasty.Chapter3discusses Ma Shiying’s literary creation. Influenced by Jinglin faction, the style of his literary creation, more imaginative, advocates static, genuine and full of raw emotion.Chapter4analyzes Ma Shiying as an image in literary works. He is active in political stages and also literary works. Through analyzing his image in literary works, it indirectly reflects people’s evaluation and attitudes toward him.The conclusion is made to briefly illustrate Ma Shiying and his literature. Meanwhile, it puts forward the possibilities for further study.
