On The Literary Thought Of Mu Shiying

The research objection of this thesis is the literary thought of Mu Shiying in the30’s. Early1930’s, Mu Shiying got the influence of New Sensation School and Western Modernism and created a series of novels describing the theme of urban life. In1935, Mu Shiying joined the "soft film" and "hard movie" of the dispute. In this controversy, he put forward some reasonable understandings about the nature of art, content and form of the literary and art criticism benchmarks and the authenticity of art and other issues, which also proved for the later literary practice. Mu Shiying had a short writing career, and was once considered a "traitor", so research of his literary thought is very little, and only limited to introduce some views in the dispute. In the1930’s, he was considered as artistic supremacy by the leftists. Thus, it is necessary to sort out his literary thought so that we can get a more clear understanding.The article consists of four parts. The first part of the article discusses Mu Shiying literary thought. First, in the view of Mu Shiying, the essence of art is a reflection of subjective ideological, art express emotion, the ultimate mission is to advocate the struggle for survival tools; Second, the relationship between the content and form. Mu Shiying thought that content and form were inseparable, but the content and form were also different. Style of content determined the style of the form. Value of content didn’t determine the value of the form. Mu Shiying focus on the form of the value and independence. But left-wing stressed the contents and Russian Formalism focus on " form"; Third, works of literary criticism benchmark problems. Mu Shiying thought that the basis of the evaluation of the work of art was a combination of social and artistic value. Social value judgments depend on two factors.For one thing, artistic value determined the social value, for another, social value must advocate national struggle for survival. Forth, the authenticity of art. Mu Shiying thought that the artistic truth was the true feeling, which was due to the symbolism skills.The secong part of the article discusses some of the factors that prompted Mu Shiying literary thought to form. First, Mu Shiying had complex psychological awareness so that it was easy for him to become the allies of the sensualist. Second. Mu Shiying lived in urban so that his way of thinking, behavior orientation, values and literary way had changed. Third, the left-wing mainstream writings, Mu Shiying and left-wing camp division, which has indirectly led him to become as a neo-sensualist.The third part of the article discuses the source of Mu Shiying literary thought. His literary concept was influenced by the new Japanese sensualist, Symbolism and Aestheticism and so on.The fourth part of the article pointed out that Mu Shiying’s literary thought in the value and limitations of the thirties. He stressed the independence of the literary and aesthetic functions. Not only appear in the left-wing literary thinking biases played a remedy, but also conduct the development of the literary. However, Mu Shiying’s literary thought did not form independent system; He committed idealist error and discussed some of the problems one-sided.The method this paper used is comprehensive collection of materials, classified and comparative study. By refereneing the researeh data of the studyfield, this paper try to elaborate MuShiying’s literary thought from the origin to the formation and the character and value to the reader on the basis of predecessor.This paper focuses on stressing the value of of Mu Shiying literary thought on the historical background of the1930s by contrast with the left-wing literary thought, so that readers can get a more comprehensive and profound understanding about Mu Shiying’s literary thought. Finally,the author make this paper do some thinking and reference to the further enrich and develop of literary creation.
