With the rapid development of China, the demand on professional simultaneousinterpreter soars and simultaneous interpreter has been listed as a kind of talents in urgentneed. At the same time, more and more students are eager to take interpreting training andmany related training programs and institutions have been set up all around China. Underthis circumstance, the researches on simultaneous interpretation training are of greatimportance.Simultaneous interpretation is a complicated cognitive process which includes thefollowing steps: the reception and comprehension of the message, storing and processing ofthe message, conversing and expressing of the message in target language and thesupervision of all these processes. During the whole process, working memory, which canstore and process the information simultaneously, plays a crucial role. In previous studies,the significant role of working memory has been explained theoretically, but it is still inneed of proves from comprehensive experiment. The experiment in this thesis will testifythe positive influence of working memory on simultaneous interpretation performance andshow the development features of working memory capacity. In this way, simultaneousinterpretation training methods can be proposed from working memory perspective.This present thesis can be divided into three parts: in the first part, a brief introductionwill be given on the interpretation training situation in China and previous studies onsimultaneous interpretation and working memory; in the second part, tests on simultaneousinterpretation performance and working memory capacity will be conducted among threegroups of subjects of different levels, so as to testify the positive influence of workingmemory on simultaneous interpretation performance and conclude the developmentfeatures of working memory capacity; in the last part, some simultaneous interpretationtraining methods will be proposed from working memory perspective and suggestions onthe arrangement of these methods will be given according to the development features ofworking memory capacity.
