“Post-80s” and “post-90s” represent the two generations of young people whogrew up in the new era of China’s reform and opening up, they are about to or havebecome the main force of social development. However, most of them grow in theenvironment like greenhouses which are full of sunshine and adequate nutrient, butless frustration tempered, so there are some doubts on these two generations in thesociety and watching their development trends. Nowadays, post-80s and a part ofpost-90s have been the age when could talk about love and marriage, and mateselection preference is a sensitive index to reflect the individual values. Through thestudy about post-80s and post-90s college students in the mate selection preference,we can pry out the values of these two generations, also can let the people who payattention to them understand the development of the ideas and concepts of these twogenerations better. As the same time, the study can make these two generations abetter understanding about mate selection tendency of their own generation.This study started from the open-ended questionnaire survey, and analyzed thecontents of the open-ended questionnaire survey, then compiled the items of thecollege student mate selection preference questionnaire according to the results of theanalysis, and studied out the questionnaire for the pretest. By exploratory factoranalysis to determine the dimensions and items of the questionnaire, tested itsreliability and validity. Then, a formal questionnaire was formed and used it tomeasure formally. By confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analysis for the validdata, the results showed that the questionnaire had good reliability and validity.Through the questionnaire to understand the current situation of the college studentsin mate selection preference, compared the demographic data of post-80s and post-90s,such as age of birth, gender, only child, family source, experience in love. The mainconclusions of this study were as below. (1) Nowadays, post-80s and post-90s college students consider the most twoimportant aspects of their mates are character and feeling of life, but other aspects arenot paid little attention, showing a diversified range of mate selection preference.(2) Nowadays, post-80s college students pay more attention to their mates’ familyenvironment than post-90s college students. Among them, post-80s female collegestudents’ degree of this attention higher than post-90s female college students;post-80s college students’ degree of this attention who have no experience in lovehigher than post-90s college students who have no experience in love.(3) Female college students have more considerations about their mates than malecollege students. Male college students only attach more importance to appearanceconditions of their mates than female college students, but the degree of attention toother aspects are lower than female college students.(4) Male college students tend to choose the women who are weaker than themselvesand household as their mates, but female college students tend to choose the men whoare maturer than themselves and enterprising as their mates. As the same time, maleand female college students are both more inclined to their mates’ family conditionssimilar to themselves. And they are both more inclined to the similar or more livelycharacter of their mates.(5) Only child college students pay more attention to appearance conditions of theirmates than the college students who are not only child.(6) The college students in mate selection preference who are from different familysources have no significant differences.(7) The college students who have experiences in love attach more importance tofeeling of life of their mates than the college students who have no experiences inlove.
