Miyazaki Hayao (1941-), one of the third-generation animation masters in Japan, is the first one who rose animation to the height of the humanistic ideas. He has bold innovation and profound thinking, which is famous for melancholy emotional tone and deeply philosophical contemplation, and his works contain the profound living philosophy and humanistic concern. The thesis takes Miyazaki Hayao’s representative works such as Warriors of the Wind Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Porco Rosso (Italian name), Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo on the Cliff as research objects, and focuses on Miyazaki Hayao blended the reverence of nature, the reflection of society, the love of life and the affirmation of existence into the works and formed the unique humanistic ideas, which can be summarized as a plural idea of overall "symbiosis" aesthetics.This thesis is divided into five parts:introduction, three chapters and epilogue.Introduction:A brief introduction to the history of Japanese animation. Details of Miyazaki Hayao’s growth processes, major works and influence, summarizing the research status on Miyazaki Hayao both at home and abroad, articulate the perspective and significance of the thesis.Chapter one:Overview of Japanese animation culture and characteristics of industrialization, emphasized the interpretation of the general characteristics of Miyazaki Hayao’s animation, and seek to the significance of Japanese traditional aesthetic culture and of contemporary society and culture. That is to say, the symbiosis both ancient and modern Japanese aesthetic culture. Chapter two:To discuss the "symbiosis" aesthetic culture of animation in Miyazaki Hayao’s works from three aspects:his concepts of nature, art and spirit. I will excavate Miyazaki Hayao’s animation on the Japanese traditional aesthetic culture, and analyze the contemporary animation form of visual illusion art, and focus on the Japanese traditional nature view of forest culture, Japanese traditional color performance and animation form of color art, Japanese religious culture and myth of Miyazaki Hayao’s thinking and so on are what convey the cultural symbiosis characteristics of ideological and artistic in his animation works.Chapter three:Deeply analysis of the meaning and value of Miyazaki Hayao’s thought in modern era, and elucidation of his symbiotic idea on the implications of the cultural philosophy of human survival:When promoting social development, science and technology have also brought strong impact on human civilization. Its double edge becomes Miyazaki Hayao’s contradictive ideas in his animation world; As a product of modern civilization, the city serves as our living space at the same time, which indicates the people’s spiritual tendencies and emotional responses. Miyazaki Hayao used the city as specific images, to present human thought anxiety and survival dilemma; Emotion is the subjective consciousness of the human world, but love and courage is the powerful weapon against the social modernization and the survival dilemma of mankind, Miyazaki Hayao portrays his characters with strong vitality, persevering faith and struggling spirit.Epilogue:Summarize the key points of this thesis, and highlight its academic value and significance. From the perspective of Japanese society and culture, Miyazaki Hayao’s thought, carrying the survival philosophy and humanistic care, resonates with the "symbiotic" aesthetic idea in his classic works. With distinctive ethnic characteristics and personal style, Miyazaki Hayao’s works show a unique ideological content, which have a special value to the human spirit cultural transformation.
