The world has entered the era of globalization nowadays, which is bound to bringing about conflictsand communications between the Chinese culture and Western culture. This phenomenon has led to theprofound changes in aesthetic areas. There have been multiple coexistences between different aestheticsystem, and the mutual assimilation and innovation of their thought.Under such circumstance, acomparative study between Friedrich Schiller in Germany and Wang Guowei in China has its necessity.Friedrich Schiller,who is a great educators in western history,has promoted the function and the status ofesthetic education to the unprecedented heights. His thought of aesthetic education has affected the wholeworld. Regardless of the breadth or the depth of the esthetic education theory, Wang Guowei can be an rolemodel for future generations. Both Friedrich schiller and Wang Guowei share some similarities and somedifferences in the background, approaches, goals and outcomes in aesthetic education. This dissertationgives a systematic analyse and detailed comparison on these aspects and the practical significance of thestudy.Both Friedrich schiller and Wang Guowei demanded vigorously to find a way to solve the problemwhich facing their era predicament. Coincidentally, they both chose the aesthetic education rather thanpolitical means to redeem the social reality and the degeneration of human nature. In the conception of theiraesthetic education, there were some similarities and some differences. In terms of aesthetic educationbackground, this dissertation gives a detailed exposition on socio-historical background of Aestheticeducation thought, and has highlighted the purpose of the reality of the salvation of Friedrich Schiller andWang Guowei. At the same time, they were both deeply influenced by Kant’s philosophy and aesthetics andfeatured modernism. The ideas of their esthetic education mostly were based on Kant’s theory, and carryon the analysis on the aspect of the theory’s inheritance and innovation. In terms of modernism, Schillerpowerfully carried on the complaint and the criticism to the phenomenon of human and social alienations,and opened the precedent for the aesthetic criticism of capitalist modernity. Wang Guowei carried on theintroduction and dissemination of Germanic aesthetics, and laid stress on the enlightenment of humanity,and caused the modern transformation of the Chinese aesthetic thought. In terms of the comparison thecontent in aesthetic education,this part emphasized on the comparative analysis on the starting point, the approaches, the goals and the final outcome in aesthetic education, in order to cause us to understandclearly about the development process of conflicts and communications between the Chinese aesthetictheory and the Western aesthetic theory, and find out the common traits and the difference between theSchiller’s aesthetic education and the Wang Guowei’s aesthetic education in order to better guide theconstruction of our contemporary aesthetic education.And then, there was the reconsideration on the comparison of the two esthetic education thought,which causes us to be clear about the predicament of the pepole’s subsistence and clarify the significance ofthe comparison of the two aesthetic education. Along with social progress and the rapid development ofscience and technology, the people have been dismembered riddled.The human, modern education andsocial alienation is more prominent than Schiller’s times and Wang Guowei’s times. In this world of themercy of any instrumental reason, the human have been alienated into one solitary fragment of the whole.Education has also deviated from the track of developing a sound personality to meet the needs of society.Faced with the predicament of the pepole’s subsistence and split and distortion of human nature nowadays,we are also more and more aware of the importance of aesthetic education. Therefore, it caused us to fillwith longing of the perfect ideal of harmony and freedom through the comparison of Schiller’s aestheticideas and Wang Guowei’s aesthetic ideas. There is no doubt that their aesthetic ideas still has noticeablepractical significance nowadays.
