The Protection And Utilization Value Research Of The Ancient City Of Shangqiu

The city is the focus of human civilization as well as a symbol of regional culture. China has along and splendid history of5,000years and paralleled city history. With the political, economic, culturaland social development, many unique cities are fostered. Since1982, the State Council has approved118national historical and cultural cities, which are the precious heritage the history bequeathed to us.Shangqiu enlists in the second batch of national historical and cultural cities, and as the carrier of Shangqiuregional culture, the Shangqiu ancient city’s protection and utilization has always been the focus of publicattention. In the recent20years’ overall planning and revival construction process, although thecombination of city’s protection, restoration, preservation and utilization has always been emphasized, theactual development of Shangqiu ancient city isn’t very satisfactory. Ever since China’s Cultural RelicsProtection Law promulgated, we have gained some practical experience in the protection of ancientbuildings, relics, historic districts and historic buildings, and in the ancient city’s overall protection anddevelopment, some successful examples, such as Lijiang, Pingyao, have emerged. However, if comparedwith modern urbanization process, this process is still lagging behind. In general, no residence houses havebeen build from the Founding of PRC to early1990s.The measure to resolve the common people’shabitation problem is to use and transform imposing dwellings and spacious courtyards, which used to belived by one family, but now it has evolved into the “House of72Tenants” with the increase of population.Unauthorized structures and sheds at random, as well as the phenomenon of damaging the originalarchitectural style is prevailing. Some former residences of celebrities and historic buildings are traded bythe individual or the collective, and the property has converted to private or public residence. For their ownneeds or knowledge limitations, users of these houses have made some alterations on the houses partly orcompletely, all these have increased the difficulties of protecting the style of ancient city.This paper focuses on and starts with the protection methods and channels of Shangqiu ancientcity, value assessment system, development and utilization and management, etc. This paper conducts aresearch on the more reasonable, feasible and workable method and channel to utilize Shangqiu ancient cityon the premise of protection and value return. The paper is divided into seven chapters: the first chapter isthe introduction, mainly described the research background, research significance, recent similar study at home and abroad, as well as research methods and research framework. The second chapter is the historicalbackground and foundation for the protection and utilization of Shangqiu ancient city, mainly elaboratedfrom four points “a basic overview of the Shangqiu ancient city”,"Shangqiu ancient city’s historical status",“Shangqiu ancient city and World Heritage”,“related policies regulations for protection and utilization”.The third chapter is the investigation and analysis of Shangqiu ancient city, mainly analyzed from threeperspectives, the research work, the present planning and development conditions, and the architectureconditions. Chapter four is the valuation principle and assessment method for the Shangqiu ancient city’sprotection and utilization, mainly elaborated from four perspectives,“the valuation principle of theShangqiu ancient city”,"the particularity of the city evaluation”,“the assessment system for the value ofShangqiu ancient city’” and “the assessment method of Shangqiu ancient city’s value”. Chapter five is theresource constitution and actual state evaluation of Shangqiu ancient city, which mainly elaborates “theresource constitution of Shangqiu ancient city”, and thus builds Shangqiu ancient city “actual stateevaluation” system and reaches the conclusion. Chapter six is the strategy and method of Shangqiu ancientcity’s protection and utilization, mainly elaborated from five perspectives, the guiding principle, strategy,major initiative, exploration and development of the ancient city’s protection and utilization, and it laterexplains how to apply for World Cultural Heritage based on the ancient city’s existing conditions. Chapterseven, it’s the conclusion which summarizes the significance of the value research in Shangqiu ancientcity’s protection and utilization. It’s hoped that this paper could provide reference for the protection andutilization of Shangqiu ancient city.
