The Greek Colonization is a very important event in the history of Greece. This thesis will try to make an analysis on the Greece Colonization in North Africa, in order to find the developments and characteristics of it. After that, this paper will also try to show the position of them in the Greek colonization at last. The origin of the Greek colonization in North Africa depend on Greeks’ opinion about the world they known. Since the7th century BC, Assyrian empire had been divided and Egypt also had weakened, there was a chance for Greeks to settle in North Africa. Because of the rise of Carthage in western, the lack of room in the Near East and Black Sea, and the effort of Greece Mercenaries in Egypt, The Greek colonial movement finally moved to the North Africa. However, the colonization of North Africa was not as the same. There were two different models in North Africa. In Libya, there was a apoikia model. Greeks had a certain colonial leader, a certain Land allocation, they set up a political system base on the Battid royalty, and an economic system based on Agriculture. In Egypt, There was a emporion model. Greeks did not have any colonial leader or Land allocations, the political system had to depend on the Greek oracles. So they set up a social system base on those oracles. Although the developments in those two areas were not the same, they also had the same development; they had to change into the Greek city-states.After the rising of the Carthaginian, Greeks met a resistance. They could not settler further in the west. So the border of the Greek Colonization in North Africa was defined. At last the Persian came; they finally occupied the Greek colonies in North Africa. But the invasion of the Persian did not interrupted the development of these colonies, They brought new cultures and local unified to it, which made a preparation for the prosperity of the Classical Greece.
