An Analysis On The Grecian Large Colonial Movement And The Polis System In Archaic Ages

The Archaic period was the time of transition in Greek society.The Greeks choosed colonize outside and established the polis,it had a foreshadowing effction on the ancient Greece's brilliant civilization.This article tries to tease and analysis the colonial movement and polis system respectively,and combine with the contaction between them,aim to explore the impaction to the colony on polis system.In my view,among the multitudinous factors which influencd the Greeks to colonize outside,the principle factor was that the land could't satisfied the needs of the ever-growing population.Colonial movement straighted to the three direction mainly: northeast,west,south,established many colonies in the black sea coast,Greece areas and the north Africa respectively.Overseas colonial movement relieved the demand for land firstly,then had contributed to the business and trade,and made the transformation of Greece from agricultural society to the business.In addtion,it enhanced the exchange of culture.The Archaic period was the time that polis system formed,it is a kind of a small country and long-term autonomous state model.In the era of ancient Greece before the Minoan and Mycenaean period,once existed the autocratic monarchy,but it disintegrated in the dark ages.The polis system formed on the basis of the autocratic monarchy turndown.The Greek polis onced existed monarchy,aristocracy,oligarchic system,democracy and other different regime,most of the them had experienced the transformation of the aristocracy to democracy,alonged with power downfall in this process constantly.Citizens were the most important class of the polis,its based on the citizens,operated in the form of the rule of law.The dispersion of overseas colonial movement was an important factor which caused Greek to be a small country,dued to doria's invasion and the disintegration of Mycenae autocratic monarchy,the Greeks began migrated frequently,it hadn't formed a strong sense of national identity initially.In the process of colonization,it was dispersed in the form of outward,this made there colonies arounded everywhere.There were two phenomenons of colonization in the process of colonization,excepted the mother state established the subsidary,and so on,thus to split and multiply.made hundreds of the Greek polis.The connection between the mother state and the subsidary was mainly based on the religious rites and the cultural heritage,it was political equality between each other,non subordination,this environment caused that city existed in the form of small territory and population.Land system was the foundation of polis,because of more average in distribution of land and the guarantee of lands' quantity,thus the civil class could formed.The development of the industrial and commercial hierarchy in the colonial movement,promoted the change of the regime of Greek polis and the constant downturn of the power center.In the course of maritime migration,the people on the same boat “helped each other” promoted the descent of blood clan and the enlightenment of the consciousness.With the establishment of Greek polis,the people of each polis had a common religious sacrifice and took part in the sports meeting,coagulated the Greeks' national identity in this process.
