The United States is a typical immigration country, the statue of liberty which symbolizes the freedom and the democracy stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, meets the millions of immigrants to the United States since the late19th century. But the United States really as the symbol of the Statue of liberty as full of democracy and freedom? It is not true. In the1970s of the20th century, the cabin poem on Angel Island was found, which opened the embarrassing page in American history of immigration---Angel Island immigration station in San Francisco.Since the1882Chinese Exclusion Act, America began to exclude and restrict immigrants. The performance of Chinese Exclusion Act policy, the defects of the original detention facilities, the unique geographic location and strategic advantages of Angel Island as well as the increasing of "problems of migrants", which urged United States to establish Angel Island immigration station (1910-1940) in San Francisco. In the context of the Chinese Exclusion Act, Angel Island immigration station which established by United States is an agency to censor the immigrants who from the Pacific coast, and the executive body of the Chinese Exclusion Act. Chinese immigrants is the immigrants who is the longest-detained, the most stringent examined and have suffered the most painful. Until now the cabin poem on the detention wall is faintly visible, which is the real portrayal of the Chinese immigrant encounters. The painful experience on Angel Island immigration station caused great physical and mental effects to the Chinese immigrants; Chinese immigrants’pain experience on Angel Island immigration station is the result of United States implementation of the policies of racial discrimination and exclusion, and the result of strict enforcement the Chinese Exclusion Act. At present, although overseas Chinese in the United States has improving their position, United States immigration policy has also improved, but the racism, racial discrimination and exclusion still exists. The residues of the barracks on Angel Island, at all times, vigilant overseas Chinese in America not to forget history, to make unremitting efforts to get a true democracy and equal rights. To overseas Chinese in the United States, the burden is heavy and the road is long.
