Blue and white porcelain is the great treasure of China ceramic art, first made in Tang, prevailed in Yuan. During Yuan dynasty, under the rule of Mongolians, territory of China once expanded,"North to Mount Yin, west to LiuSha, east to LiaoDong, south to HaiBiao". Under the lead of Genghis Khan, Mongolian rulers wanted to create a World Empire on which the sun never sets. In such a background, the appearance of blue and white porcelain had an obviously relation with the rulers’favorite. The nomadic people who lived in the northern prairie from generation to generation, had particular emotion with the blue sky and the white clouds, especially like the color blue and white. And blue and white porcelain was quite up to this aesthetical standard, so it could prevail in Yuan dynasty which under the heel of Mongolians. Blue and white porcelain not only carried the likes of Mongolians, but also included many cultures from China Central Plains. The northern minority nationalities were not barbarians; instead they borrowed from others’ culture, and also had an open and inclusive attitude for the religion communication. This would help to create an enough space for the development of Shamanism、Islam、Taoism. And this also made these religious elements deep into the creation of blue and white porcelain. So actually blue and white porcelain was the art production which including the culture mix of Mongolians and Hans.Chinese culture is extensive, profound and boasts a long history. It consists of56different nationalities. Doing researches on blue and white porcelain can help us to propagate the great China ceramic culture, and doing researches on the culture communication between Mongolians and Hans can help us to know more about the form and the history of China culture, to strengthens our national cohesion, to improve the competitiveness of China culture in the whole world.Previous studies about blue and white porcelain, or viewed through the archaeological perspective, or viewed through the art perspective, seldom viewed through the cross-cultural perspective. But this article takes an example of blue and white porcelain, from the microscopic point of view, to study the blue and white porcelain which developed under the culture mix Of Mongolians and Hans. It uses literature analysis method to analyze politics, culture and literature from the certain time. And for the different shapes and ornamentations of vases, or for the certain objects, this article uses the artistic analysis method to do the study, to summarize the aesthetic characteristics and cultural meaning of blue and white porcelain. In order to study this article deeply, investigation and case analysis methods will be used too.
