The mutiny of Jinyuan was a very important transition for the government of middle tang dynasty. After the mutiny of An Lushan and Shi Siming, the local military governments in Heshuo became semi-independent, which damaged the centralization of Tang dynasty. In the period of Daizong, for some reasons the central government could not solve all those problem. When Dezong became the emperor of Tang, he tried his best to limit the local military governments, and set off wars with them. However, for the military mistake, all his challenge was fail, and the mutiny happened in Jinyuan.The mutiny of Jinyuan not only indicated the lose of the new policy about the the local military governments, but also caused a significant change in the politics of middle Tang dynasty. After the mutiny, the policy of central government had changed and became more contradictory and extreme. Althought the central government continued to limit the local military governments, they could not do anything to change the situation, and treated them lenitively.Generally speaking, there were great changes happened in the politics of middle Tang dynasty after the mutiny of Jinyuan. We can see a clear contrast. This thesis focus on this contrast, and tried to discuss the influence of the mutiny of Jinyuan, in3aspects.The first chapter in the thesis is talking about the reconstruction of the defense system in the northwest of Tang’s capital, and the transition of the policy to the local military governments, After the mutiny of An Lushan and Shi Siming, the Tibetan invaded the tang dynasty, the northwest of Tang’s capital face to a great crisis. For this reason, the defense system in the northwest of Tang’s capital was reconstructed in the period of Daizong and Dezong, including Jinyuan, Heshuo, and Shence army. facing the situation of the local military governments became semi-independent, Dezong tried his best to limit the local military governments, and change the lenitive treatment to them. For example,puting down the mutiny of Liu Wenxi.The second chapter in the thesis is talking about the influence of the mutiny of Jinyuan to the politics of the middle tang dynasty and Dezong himself. To limlit the local military governments, central government let all the northwest border guards and the capital Shence army go to Hebei. In this moment Li Xilie revolted in Huaixi, the central government had to face two different battlefield. However, the central government did not want to let the he northwest border guards and the capital Shence army back and ask the army from Jinyuan and Fengxiang. Because of the reward the army betray the central government, when they went across the capital. Tang Dezong had to feld to Fengtian, and Li Huaiguang also revolted too. All those events indicated the problem of the treatments to the the local military governments, and caused a significant change in the politics of middle Tang dynasty. After that the central government had to treated them lenitively.The thrid chapter in the thesis is talking about the transition after the mutiny of Jinyuan. Althought the central government continued to limit the local military governments, they could not do anything to change the situation. Facing the domineering local military governments, on one hand, the central government treated them carefully, on the other hand, the central government limit them by the changing the political system of local forces. After the mutiny of Jinyuan and Li Huaiguang’s revoltion Dezong change his mind, and this change also lead to the changes in its political view.The last part of the conclusion is a full text review. By discussing the Jingyuan mutiny, we will understand the political changes in the mid-Tang period, especially the the local military governments.
