Studying Chinese and Western rituals and their differences which is an importanttopic of the intercultural communication can firstly help us to correctly understand wordsand deeds of Westerners as well as fully understand each other, respect each other’scustoms in communication,making us more decent in foreign association, which helps topromote the success of cross-cultural communication. What’s more,this is also animportant part of Chinese International Education. Chinese International Education is adirect window for foreign friends to recognize and understand Chinese culture, and play animportant role in introducing Chinese culture to the world, promoting internationalexchange and cooperation.This paper collects intercultural communication cultural conflicts in typical cases asthe object of the study. Combined with previous research results, it explores the socialbackground behind politeness differences and conflicts, and comes to the origin whichleads to the formation of these differences.This paper is divided into five sections. Firstly, the introduction describes the writingbackground. The first chapter introduces the principles of Chinese and Western socialpoliteness and analyzes their similarities and differences. The second chapter concretelyexplains the differences between Chinese and western society from vehicular language andfeast etiquette. The third chapter makes a meticulous analysis of the reason that forms thedifferences from the aspects of the system of thought, values, legal concepts and conceptsof justice and benefit, the concept of time as well as sense of hierarchy. Finally it concludesthe right attitude to face the differences between Chinese and western politeness, and itssignificance to Chinese international education and intercultural communication.
