Yoshimoto Banana is one of the most famous female writers of Japan currently, iscrowned by laudatory names with Haruki Murakami as the ‘Queen’ and the ‘King’ ofJapanese modern literature respectively. Yoshimoto Banana’ s novels are fevered byreaders in different countries,which brings out the so-called “phenomenon of YoshimotoBanana”. Yoshimoto Banana’ s novels describe that people enjoy prosperous materialwhich is brought by the high-tech innovation of the post-industry society in Japan and atthe same time experience mental problems including the loss of oneself,sentimentaldepression and helplessness about life and society. Her novels mainly focused on thebroken heart how to cure and how to go out the dilemma of mental difficulties with a goodattitude toward life.The whole dissertation consists of three chapters except the foreword and conclusionto discuss the post-modernism factors of Yoshimoto Banana’s novels. The forewordintroduces the basic resume and novel creation of Yoshitomo Banana. Chapter I describescharacters how to find and return one selves from the lost spirits,showing us people’ sself-mental condition in post-modern society. Chapter II mainly focuses on the mixture ofthe reality and non-reality,from the aspects of the existence of the mysterious dream andthe psychic phenomenon to discusses the feature of Yoshimoto Banana’s post-modernism.Chapter III is devoted to a study from three aspects——family,kitchen,traditional femaleimage to discuss a try that Yoshimoto Banana how to transcend post-modern and return thetradition.The conclusion sums up the whole thesis.
