Discuss The Kunqu Artistic Revival From Suzhou Lanya Opera Troup

Kunqu opera, originated in Suzhou Kunshan area, Yuan dynasty, is the oldest one inthe traditional operas in China, which is one of China’s traditional culture and art,especially in the opera art treasures. It is known as "the ancestor of one hundred play","Chinese Opera mother", Kunqu has over600years of history so far. During600years,Kunqu opera has experienced the process of ups and downs. On May18,2001, Kunquopera was listed by UNESCO as the world’s first " the masterpiece of human oral andintangible heritage ". It not only symbolizes that Kunqu Opera has been recognized by the worldfor its rich historical and cultural heritage and its precious national opera cultural values,but also it marks a reflection of Kunqu’s endangered status and the signs of decline,indicating that all of humanity should rescue and protect it. Since the1980s, thecontinuously strengthened protection of national Kunqu has relatively relieved itssurvival crisis, especially after Kunqu opera becoming the world’s cultural heritage.However, because of the era and institutional reasons, the survival of Kunqu still exist avariety of difficulties to get rid of，Kunqu’s revival remains to beseen. LanYa Theatre, as a"new life" in Suzhou Kunqu Opera and a new force in the revitalization of the cause, itplays a significant role to rescue, protection, inheritance, dissemination and promotion ofKunqu by tapping the traditional repertoire, training Kunqu talents, promoting Kunquculture as well as a large number of Kunqu performances. It makes indelible andoutstanding contributions to the revival of Kunqu. In this paper, I will explore the new ideaof how this ancient form of theater-Kunqu to regain glories from the poor conditions to getrevivals in accordance due to the enlightment of LanYa’s efforts and its living shortages torealize revivals after all kinds of surveys and studies.
