Body language, a kind of nonverbal communication, which can replaces part ofspeech act, convey information and share feelings. In this paper, I divide the teachers’bodylanguage of foreign Chinese classroom teaching into four types, namely: clothing, facialexpressions and body movements and vice languages. Firstly, the first impression isdetermined by the clothes you wear, the clothing is an important part. Dress for teachersshould follow a principle which is suitable to be harmony. Secondly, the facial expressionis the most vivid posture language, which can be divided into eye language, eyebrowlanguage, mouth language and face language, and they are not respectively but oftenfunction together. Thirdly, we use body movement mostly and it is the most complicatedone, which can be divided into hand gestures and body language. Lastly, deputy languageis refers to sound without specific semantic language, a common form of body language asteachers used in the classroom. For example, the change of tone, the tone of gentle andtough, the pause between language, expressing different meanings.According to the multiple foreign Chinese teachers’ teaching videos, I found that signlanguage is used most of non-verbal type, and next is facial expressions, and in most of theuse sign language fingers potential. The action of right hand is used more then left hand,vice language is more used, etc.Foreign Chinese teacher is focuses on the foreign students learning Chinese as asecond language, so the use of body language is especially important. It not only canconvey information and share feelings, but can save class time, creating harmoniousrelation between the teacher and students. All in all, body language in teaching Chinese asa foreign language is necessary in the classroom, avoiding weaknesses and addressing the strengths.
