Late Ming and Early Qing Dynasty was the transitional period of Rhyme fromdownfall to revival. During this period many factors promoted the change of the writingstyle on Rhyme, and many views on Rhyme appeared, including Li Yu’s.Li Yu lived in the Late Ming and Early Qing Dynasty, and lived a suffering life. Hewas a knowledgeable man, and had a lot of works, including poetry, novels, dramas,historical research and so on. Besides he was also a publisher and a leader of a troupe. Hefailed in the imperial examination and earned money all around. Li Yu’s literary thoughtdeeply influenced by Individuality liberation Ideological trend of the Ming Dynasty. Hepursued independence, innovation, and insisted on that work should express truth feelingsand talent of literature. From his theory, we can see that the inheritance of literary thoughtof the Ming Dynasty, and appreciate the pursuit of his new channels and efforts.This article mainly analyses the background, stylistic view, viewpoint on creation, andconcept on elegance and vulgarity of Li Yu’s views on Rhyme. The background is therenascence of Rhyme. Li Yu paid close attention to the causes of the renascence of Rhyme,the differences among various kinds of writing style, and reflected that he esteemed ofform. In the creation, Li Yu insisted on a revelation of one’s true feelings, integratedstructure and innovation. Li Yu considered that Rhyme should be easy-to-understand, butto some certain extent, Rhyme should also be refined.
