Sentences constitute discourses but not by random order. A semantic relation existsbetween those sentences, that is, coherence. Translation is a process to recognize andreconstruct textual coherence. For the sake of reproducing the original’s coherence andintegrity, translators should consider the two factors exerting influence on the translation,i.e. language and culture. In other words, the translated text should be accepted by readersof target language in terms of language and culture. For this reason, this report presentsexamples from the translated text of The Psychology of Prejudice-From Attitudes to SocialAction to analyze the two factors related to discourse coherence as well as adoptedstrategies responsive to each factor so that coherence can be achieved in the translation. Onthe basis of example analyses, the author summarizes the ways to achieve the coherence ofthe translated text by reconstructing the coherence of the source text.
