The late Qing Dynasty in the alternating phase of the Modern Chinese to modern Chinese, is the most critical period of transition. The Records of Officialdom Exposure is a chinese vernacular novel created by Li Baojia in the late Qing dynasty. It is a valuable corpus of Modern Chinese which was mainly written by the then prevailing common language with dialect color, and highly embodied the face of the language at that time.This paper is mainly to describe and analyze comprehensively idioms of this book from structural relations, syntactic function, semantic structure, pragmatic.SectionⅠ, Introduction. This section,firstly,describes the significance of the topic, secondly, overviews the research situation of predecessors on the idiom and The Records of Officialdom Exposure, and then introduces the choice of corpus and research methods.Section 2, extraction and tracing of idioms of The Records of Officialdom Exposure. This section of the first introduces the different views on the definition of the idiom in academia, and based on this, we put forward five standard definition of it, and extract a total of 334 idioms from The Records of Officialdom Exposure. This section of the second is to determine the source of the 334 idioms.Section 3, The structural relationship of idioms of The Records of Officialdom Exposure. In this paper, the structural relationship of the idioms are divided into nine broad categories:linking relations, subject-predicate relations, verb-object relations, complement relations,modifier relations,linking-predicate relations,both subject and object relations,tightening relations,complex sentence relations,and then describe and analyse each type of structural relationship about idioms of The Records of Officialdom Exposure.Section 4, Syntactic function of the idioms. This section not only defines the nature of the idioms which appearing in the The Records of Officialdom Exposure,and describes syntactic function about the nominal idioms, verbal idioms and adjectival idioms,but also analyzes the nominal idioms which are directly used as complements and the verbal idiom which do not take an object,and sums up the causes.Section 5, Semantic analysis of idioms. The semantic types of idioms in this part are divided into two major categories and eight subcategories,and the deep semantic structures of the 322 idioms are described comprehensively and detailedly by the predication structure analysis.Section 6, Pragmatic Analysis of idioms. This part analyzes the idioms of the The Records of Officialdom Exposure from the pragmatic function and pragmatic effect, including pragmatic function mainly includes descriptive function, cited function and interpretation functions, pragmatic effect mainly includes concise, implicative insightful, vivid and melody harmony.Section 7, Conclusion.
