Gu is one of the ancient Chinese porcelain-type and more popular in Ming andQing Dynasties. The earliest gu-shaped porcelain was the imitation of Shang andZhou Dynasties bronze Gu. A large number of gu-shaped porcelain were found inXiuneisi kiln and Jiaotanxia kiln in Southern Song Dynasty. The gu-shaped porcelainglaze color of Yuan Dynasty was increasing and artifacts decoration was wider.Works of Jingdezhen and Longquan kiln are handed down. The gu-shaped porcelainvarieties and styles of Jingdezhen kilns in Ming and Qing Dynasties were richer. Inthis paper, most of the collections are collected by Chinese and overseas museums.According to the different objects form, they are divided into eight types. Through theformal division of the gu-shaped porcelain, they are divided into four periods tostudied. There is three varieties: blue and white porcelain, polychrome and colorglazed porcelain, combined with the common decoration for a summary of each breed.Besides Jingdezhen kiln in Ming and Qing Dynasties, domestic kilns, such as Dehua,Shiwan and Zhangzhou kilns, also made gu-shaped porcelain. Dehua kilns productshad higher artistic value. During this period in European area, many kilns made thiskind of ceramics, whose device type and decoration had a strong Chinese porcelainstyle. Japanese Guyiwan kiln polychrome gu-shaped porcelain formed its owncharacteristics and affected later Jingdezhen kiln. Finally, I collect some materials andancient literature to explore the function of the gu-shaped porcelain.
